According to MotorTrend, the GX has a better fuel efficiency, with 30 mpg in the city, 32 mpg highway, and 31 mpg combined. Meanwhile, the Encore only offers 25 mpg for city driving, 30 mpg on the highway, and 27 mpg combined. 
The standards on each model also differ. For the Encore, exterior-mounted roof rails are standard, but only an option on the GX.
