Exploring the HR-V EX-L and the HR-V Touring trim levels

When you purchase or lease a vehicle that is above the base trim level, you'll be able to enjoy a lot of features that will make your drive safer and more comfortable.

Honda makes no exception to this with their HR-V. As we discussed earlier in this post, both the EX-L and the Touring each have leather-trimmed seats, a feature that the other HR-Vs do not. What else do these trim levels possess?

Honda HR-V EX-L

All trim levels come with onboard air filtration control systems and illuminated steering wheel controls. The features of the EX-L trim level really go well above and beyond those, however. You can expect this version of the HR-V to be equipped with heated front seats and a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter knob.

As for entertainment, the EX-L is built for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Music in the EX-L will play out of six speakers that are a part of a 180-watt audio system.

On the exterior, the EX-L will have heated power mirrors and a powered moon roof. This trim also includes auto door locks with walk-away locking technology.

Honda HR-V Touring

Built for optimal comfort that is needed for long car rides, the HR-V Touring trim level will possess most of the features of all of the other trim levels. But there are a few more bells and whistles the Touring trim level offers that are unique to it.

There is a Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation System that is built for voice recognition. The headlamps are LED and have an auto-on-off. Finally, the driver's seat of this trim level offers a powered eight position adjustment.

Does the Honda HR-V Come with Power Seats?

Power seating is not an option for most of the trim levels for the Honda HR-V. Multiple HR-V owner forums have stated that there were issues with available space for the mechanicals required for this feature.

Fortunately, Honda was able to maneuver things around to make space for the equipment needed for power seats for one of their trim levels for the HR-V. The Touring trim level has powered seats as a standard feature. They are eight-way adjustable seats for the driver.

Does HR-V have Magic Seats?

There are several model Hondas that are engineered with magic seats. Along with newer model years Honda Fit and Honda Odyssey, the Honda HR-V has these rear seats as a standard feature. For the HR-V, these seats are in all trim levels. But what are magic seats?

Honda's magic seats are a 60/40 split-style rear seating that offers up to four additional configurations. Although you must operate them manually, the magic seats are meant to be reconfigured to allow for different types of cargo. This will make hauling certain items possible, as well as allow for an easier time to load and unload.

The four additional seating configurations are:

Tall mode

In this mode, the back seat headrests are removed. The seats then fold up into a vertical position. This will allow for four feet of vertical space for hauling taller items, such as bigger plants and lamps.

Long mode

If you are needing to transport longer items like surfboards, lumber, or ladders, long mode will assist you. The rear seats and front passenger seat fold all the way back, creating the necessary room needed to carry the longer objects.

Utility mode

This mode makes it possible to have access to all 52 cubic feet of cargo space. The rear magic seat folds all the way down, allowing you to carry larger objects on board.

Refresh mode

In refresh mode, the passenger is able to recline their front seat all the way into the back row of seating. This makes it possible to totally recline and relax or take a nap during a longer journey.

Does the Honda HRV LX have Heated Seats?

Heated seats come in pretty handy on the chilliest of days. Unfortunately, this feature isn't available on all trim levels of the Honda HR-V.

The base trim level LX and the Sport will be missing heated seats. However, there are still three trim levels that offer heated seats as a standard feature. Should you purchase or lease an EX, EX-L, or Touring HR-V, your vehicle will help warm you quicker in the winter months.

What is the Difference Between EX and LX Honda HR-V?

The LX is considered the base model of the Honda HR-V. While it still comes equipped with some great features, it will still lack some of the upgrades of higher trim levels like the EX. Let's take a look at some of the differences.

Honda HR-V LX

The base model trim comes with some great onboard features. The 160-watt audio system plays through four speakers. There is also a five-inch touch screen.

Powered door locks and rear magic seats are also onboard the base trim level. Expect the same engine under the hood, as well as a CVT transmission as you would with the other four HR-V trim levels.

Honda HR-V EX

This upgraded trim level is more comfortable than its base trim level counterpart. Heated front seats and onboard climate control really make the EX stand out from the LX. In addition, the EX offers push-button start/stop, programmable power locks, and a powered moon roof.

Onboard entertainment has some stark differences between the EX and LX. The EX comes standard with a 180 watt, six-speaker audio system. It will also be host Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Satellite radio and HD radio are also features the EX offers.

The EX also has more safety features. The Honda Sensing Safety and Driver Assisted Technologies are standard with the EX. This equips the EX with the following that the LX does not have access to:

  • Collision Mitigation Braking System
  • Road Departure Mitigation System
  • Adaptive Cruise Control
  • Land Keeping Assist System
  • Forward Collision Warning
  • Lane Departure Warning
  • Lane Watch

What does Honda HR-V compare to?

The Honda HR-V belongs in the class of vehicles known as crossover SUVs. These vehicles are smaller SUV body styles that are constructed on passenger car frames rather than those of trucks. More compact than their SUV counterparts, the crossover SUVs were built to hold five passengers and still have the ability to carry a decent amount of cargo on board.

The list of crossover SUVs seems to grow year after year, with more automakers cashing in on this trend. Here is a list of some of the most popular ones available on the market today:

  • Hyundai Tuscon
  • Honda CR-V
  • Honda HR-V
  • Mazda CX-5
  • Hyundai Palisade
  • Toyota RAV-4

In closing

While not all trim levels of the Honda HR-V have leather seats, you can still enjoy this feature in the Touring and EX-L trims.
