New technology in the modern vehicle adds to both the safety and comfort of your drive. In recent years, many auto manufacturers have made it possible to read the instrument panel without having to take your eyes off of the road. This feature, known as a heads-up display, projects information onto the interior of the windshield. If you're considering a Hyundai Palisade SUV, you might be wondering if this model comes equipped with this feature. We researched the Palisade to bring you the answer.
The 2021 Hyundai Palisade has a heads-up display feature in certain trim levels. While the SE and SEL do not come with this technology as an option, the heads-up display comes standard with the Limited and Calligraphy trims.
Now that we know you can get the heads-up display with select trim levels for the Palisade, we'll look at this technology a little deeper. You might want to know how heads-up displays work or which other Hyundai models have this feature. To find out the answers to these questions and more, just keep reading!
What Does A Heads-Up Display Show?
The heads-up display in certain model vehicles gets more elaborate every year. Depending on the model car or SUV you are driving, you can access many features that you would otherwise have to take your eyes off the road to see. In the 2021 Palisade Limited and Calligraphy trim levels, the heads-up display will allow you to view:
- turn by turn navigation instructions
- speed limit signs
- speed
- cruise control settings
- audio settings
- warning lights
- smart cruise control information
- lane keeping assist settings
- blind-spot collision warning alerts
Your Palisade owner's manual will have a complete list of these items in more detail. For safety reasons, it's important to read this manual before engaging with the heads-up display.
How Does The Heads-Up Display Work?
The heads-up display works by projecting the images from your car's computer onto the windshield. The windshield contains transparent material called phosphors, which reflect the projected images so that you can easily read it.
If you're having trouble reading the items on your heads-up display, there are some things to check. Typically, the position of the seat is why the images are blurry or invisible. Make certain that you adjust both the height of your driver's side seat and its distance from the dash.
Before you place your Palisade into drive, be sure to turn the heads-up display on. Then, adjust your seat so that the images are sharp and clear. Doing this before you drive ensures the safety of you, your passengers, and those you share the road with.
A few other things could interfere with your ability to read your heads up display properly. We've listed them here:
Polarized Sunglass Lenses
The polarization filter in this type of sunglass lens blocks out most of the light rays that enter through it horizontally. This is to reduce glare, as most glare is refracted through light from this angle. This is great when you're outdoors, but it has drawbacks when trying to read an electronic display.
The images from the heads-up display projections will appear black and unreadable. So if you want to use the heads-up display in any vehicle, you'll want traditional tinted sunglass lenses.
Eyeglasses
If you have a fairly strong eyeglass prescription, you might notice some focusing issues with your heads-up display. Making sure your glasses are properly adjusted and set at just the right distance from your eyes should solve this issue.
Damaged Windshield
Any cracks or chips in the windshield might interfere with the heads up display. Large amounts of damage might make the display unreadable altogether. Carefully inspect your windshield for any cracks, chips, or pits. If you notice any, consult an auto glass company for repair (if possible) or replacement.
How Do You Turn On The Heads-Up Display On A Hyundai Palisade?
Turning on the heads-up display in your Palisade is quick and easy. To activate, use your LCD control button to get to the user settings menu. Select "head up display." Then choose "enable head up display."
The heads-up display can be shut off in the same manner it was engaged; just be sure to be parked in a safe spot when you do so. Alternately, the heads-up display will turn off whenever you turn off the ignition.
Which Hyundai Models Have Heads-Up Display?
For the model year 2021, the following Hyundai vehicles have heads up display:
- Palisade Limited
- Palisade Calligraphy
- Kona Ultimate
- Sante Fe Calligraphy
- Sante Fe Calligraphy 2.5 AWD
- Sonata Limited
- Veloster Turbo Ultimate
Can You Add A Heads-Up Display?
If you have an older model vehicle or a newer one that wasn't equipped with a heads-up display, there are aftermarket options to consider. While an aftermarket brand won't have nearly all of the features of a heads-up display that is factory installed by the automaker, you'll most likely be able to view vehicle speed, temperature, and odometer.
So if you're looking for a turn-by-turn display or enhanced safety and collision alerts with your aftermarket heads-up display unit, you won't have much luck. However, some brands will have additional features. As the technology continues to improve, look for better options for aftermarket installs in the near future.
None of the aftermarket heads-up display brands are compatible with all-electric vehicles or diesel-fueled ones. But all of the ones we discovered will work with traditional motors or hybrids. Mount it in place, plug it in, and follow the prompts.

In Closing
Heads-up display technology is continuing to grow in popularity. The demand for this feature has enabled auto manufacturers to begin having it available as standard on their luxury models, and some have begun integrating it as an option for lower-end trim levels.
As heads-up displays become more common, look for better options in the aftermarket. Demand will continue to grow as consumers want this safety and convenience feature installed on their older model vehicles.
