Does The Hyundai Palisade Come In Hybrid?

The Korean automaker, Hyundai, has been making high-quality SUVs for years now. Out of their complete lineup, the Palisade is one of the most successful models. If you're in the market for a 2021 or 2022 Hyundai Palisade, you may be wondering if the SUV comes in a hybrid version. Luckily, we've researched all the trims for 2021 and the information and speculation for 2022 and have the hybrid and engine information for you here.

The 2021 Hyundai Palisade does not come in a hybrid version, and there are no plans to make the 2022 Palisade a hybrid either. Both the 2021 and 2022 Palisades run on a 3.8-liter V6 gasoline engine.

Those are the engine options available for the 2021 and 2022 Hyundai Palisade, but there is more information you should know about this SUV before making your purchase. Please keep reading to find out about the features of the 2021 Palisade and the anticipated features of the 2022 model. We will also discuss some of the other SUVs in the Hyundai lineup that do come in hybrid versions, like the Santa Fe.

The 2021 Hyundai Palisade Features

The 2021 model Hyundai Palisade is a mid-size SUV that comes in four different trims with varying features. The four trims are the SE, the SEL, the Limited, and the Calligraphy. Each of these levels adds new technologies and comfort features, and more stylish design options. The one constant through all of the trims is the engine and fuel economy.

Fuel Efficiency of the 2021 Palisade

The 2021 version of the Palisade has no hybrid option but instead has a more traditional large SUV engine. The engine on all of the trims of the 2021 model is a 3.8-liter V6 that gives the driver 291 horsepower and 262 foot-pounds of torque to command. This power level is useful for most towing jobs, especially when paired with an all-wheel drive, which is not standard but is available as an add-on for all trims. The Palisade has a maximum towing load of up to 5,000 pounds.

The downside of an engine like that is that the 2021 Palisade only gets an average fuel economy at best. The EPA mileage estimates for this vehicle are 19 miles per gallon (MPG) city and 26 MPG highway, which lead to a combined MPG of 22. This fuel economy is significantly less than what you would find in hybrid model SUVs.

Highlights of the 2021 Palisade

Fuel economy and engine size are not the only factors that make a vehicle unique and inform the purchase decision. The 2021 edition of the Hyundai Palisade has several features that make it competitive in a crowded market.

First, safety is paramount for Hyundai, and parts of the Palisade make that obvious. There are not only blind-spot detectors on this SUV; there are cameras that show the entire field of view of the blind-spot on your dashboard, so you're always aware of your surroundings. Additionally, forward collision avoidance technology and a Smart Cruise Control keep you at a safe distance from the vehicle in front of you. These are just three examples from a list of over ten safety features.

Second are the interior features. Like many SUVs of its class, the Palisade has third-row seating and can fit up to seven passengers comfortably. Some trims swap the second-row captain's seats for another bench like the third row, allowing room for eight passengers. That amount of space is also suitable for large amounts of interior cargo, made easily accessible with the available hands-free liftgate.

The 2022 Hyundai Palisade Features

The 2022 Palisade hasn't been released yet, but there is a lot of information about it already available. Hyundai isn't going to change a lot for next year's model, so many of the features from 2021 will remain. The 2022 Palisade will not have a hybrid option like other vehicles in Hyundai's lineup. The engines in the 2022 models will be the same engines that powered the 2021 versions - a 291 horsepower 3.8-liter V6. Fuel economy will also remain the same at 22 miles per gallon combined city and highway.

The exterior of the 2022 Palisade will look essentially the same as the 2021 models. Three of the four trims from 2021 will remain the same other than a few changes, but the high-end Calligraphy trim is getting more updates than usual with some cosmetic changes to lights and leather features.

Does Hyundai have any Hybrid SUVs

So, you love the Palisade but are deadset on making your next SUV a hybrid. Luckily, Hyundai does have SUVs in their fleet that are available as a hybrid. The Tuscon and the Santa Fe come in hybrid versions of the traditional SUVs with the same names. For each of the hybrid versions of each of them, you sacrifice a little horsepower and gain a lot of fuel economy. The Tuscon and the Santa Fe are both perfect if you need the size and the comfort of an SUV but want to keep your carbon footprint to a minimum.

Hyundai also has another sustainable option in their 2021 SUV lineup, though it isn't a third hybrid. The Hyundai Nexo is an SUV that runs on hydrogen instead of petroleum gasoline. The best part about this type of car is that the only emission that comes out of the tailpipe is water. The caveat to the Nexo is that they are currently only available at specific California dealerships.

Is Hyundai Tuscon a self-charging hybrid?

The Tuscon is one of the hybrids that Hyundai produces in the USA. This hybrid SUV does charge itself by converting energy created during breaking into electricity to recharge the battery. When you drive the Tuscon at lower speeds, the battery propels the vehicle instead of the gasoline-powered engine. The brakes charge the battery regardless of which power source the SUV is running on.

Is the Hyundai Tuscon fuel efficient?

As a hybrid, the Tuscon can function on either electricity or fuel. The Tuscon is highly fuel-efficient by nature as a hybrid because it relies on the battery to power the vehicle when used at lower speeds. However, when the Tuscon does use its fuel engine, it is still incredibly efficient, averaging around 37 or 38 miles per gallon depending on trim.

How big is the battery on the 2021 Santa Fe Hybrid?

The other hybrid in the Hyundai lineup is the Santa Fe. The battery on the Santa Fe Hybrid is a 270-volt lithium-ion polymer battery that is capable of putting out 44.2 kilowatt-hours or 59 horsepower. You can also expect the possibility to generate up to 195 foot-pounds of torque with the Hyundai battery.

The battery on the cousin of the Santa Fe, the Hyundai Tuscon, is the exact same battery with all of the same capabilities.

Is the Hyundai Santa Fe fuel efficient?

Like its relative, the Tuscon, the hybrid version of the Santa Fe, is incredibly fuel-efficient for an SUV due to its hybrid technologies. However, Santa Fe is slightly less fuel-efficient overall than Tucson. The highest fuel economy you will see on any Santa Fe trim is 36 miles per gallon, which is on the Blue trim. Overall, the Santa Fe averages out at around 33 miles per gallon combined city and highway.

Final Thoughts

If you plan on buying a new SUV in 2021 or 2022 and want it to be a hybrid, Hyundai should be one of the first dealerships you visit. Although the Palisade doesn't come in a hybrid version, Hyundai has other SUV models available as hybrids. So before making your next purchase, check out the Hyundai Tuscon and Santa Fe. Both of the hybrid versions of these vehicles are highly fuel-efficient vehicles that don't sacrifice all SUV perks.
