14 Hidden Features & Tips for Ford Escape Owners

Your Ford Escape is packed with features, but some might still be waiting to surprise you. What if there were hidden options that could make each drive easier and more enjoyable?

Many Escape owners haven’t tapped into the full potential of their SUV. We're here to reveal those hidden features and smart tips that can change the way you experience every drive. Get ready to discover what you’ve been missing out on.

1. Master Your Driver Assistance

Driver assistance features can make driving smoother and more controlled. Start by setting a speed limit buffer with Intelligent Speed Assist, which helps the car adjust when speed limits change.

This can be customized in the driver assistance menu to fit your driving style.

For longer trips, fine-tune the Driver Alert System by adjusting the sensitivity settings in the menu. This reduces unnecessary alerts, helping you stay focused on the road.

Traffic Sign Recognition also adds value by reading street signs and displaying them on the instrument cluster. You can adjust the display settings to choose where and how these signs appear, keeping them easy to see while driving.

2. Quiet Start for Early Mornings

Quiet Start is a great feature for keeping things peaceful when using remote start, especially in the early morning or quiet neighborhoods.

With Quiet Start enabled, the blower fan operates at a lower speed, and the horn stays silent during remote start, reducing any unwanted noise.

To turn Quiet Start on or off, head to the information display settings in the menu. For a quiet remote start, lock the doors with the key fob and press the Remote Start button twice quickly.

The exterior lights will flash twice, and the engine will start with minimal noise, letting you ease into your day without disturbing anyone around you.

3. FordPass App Features for More Control

The FordPass app goes beyond basic remote start, lock, and unlock functions—it lets you take control of your car in new ways.

One standout feature is the ability to schedule remote starts so your car is preheated or cooled down at specific times—perfect for making daily commutes more comfortable.

You can also check your car’s status through the app, like tire pressure and fuel level, helping you stay prepared before you even get in.

If your car has FordPass Connect™, you can also use the app to activate the in-car Wi-Fi hotspot, keeping everyone connected on the go.

4. Hidden Escape Storage

The adjustable load floor in the cargo area does more than provide flexibility—it hides a secret compartment that's great for keeping valuables out of sight and adding extra security.

Around the cabin, you’ll find other smart storage spots like deep door pockets, a spacious center console, and several discreet compartments.

These hidden spaces are perfect for organizing smaller items, keeping them accessible while keeping your car tidy and clutter-free.

5. Boost Your Car's Security Settings

Your car comes with smart security features that add extra peace of mind. The Perimeter Alarm system watches over the doors, hood, and trunk.

If any are opened without the right key or remote, the alarm sounds off with flashing lights and a loud horn. To activate it, use the key fob or set it up through the touchscreen settings.

Another handy feature is the SecuriCode™ Keyless Entry Keypad. You can create a personal entry code through the touchscreen menu, making it easy to unlock the car without a key.

This is especially useful if you want to leave your keys inside or need to give someone temporary access.

6. Stop-And-Go Made Easy with Auto Hold

Auto Hold simplifies driving in traffic by keeping the car stationary after a complete stop, so you don’t have to keep your foot on the brake. It’s great for long waits at lights or during bumper-to-bumper commutes.

To activate Auto Hold, press the button on the center console. Once enabled, it stays active—even after restarting the car—until you turn it off.

When you're ready to go, press the accelerator, and the brakes release smoothly, allowing you to move forward effortlessly. This feature helps reduce fatigue and makes daily driving a bit more comfortable.

7. Smart Tips to Save Fuel

Eco Mode helps save fuel by optimizing how the engine, transmission, and climate control work together for smoother acceleration and efficient driving. You can activate Eco Mode through the vehicle’s settings menu.

For city driving, the Auto Start-Stop feature turns off the engine when idling and restarts it when the brake is released, saving fuel at long lights or in heavy traffic.

On the highway, Adaptive Cruise Control maintains a steady speed and adjusts smoothly to traffic, cutting down on sudden acceleration that uses more fuel.

8. Hands-Free Entry & Control Hacks

Customize 'Approach Lighting' to illuminate the area around your car as you walk up, making it safer and more convenient at night. To adjust how long the lights stay on when you unlock the car, head to the settings menu.

For a quick cool-down, use 'One-Touch Window Ventilation' to partially lower the windows with one touch, letting in fresh air without fully opening them.

It’s perfect for hot days when you want to cool the interior without compromising security. These features add a practical touch to your daily routine, enhancing both safety and comfort.

9. Voice Commands for Easier Driving

SYNC’s voice commands let you control audio, climate, and navigation without taking your eyes off the road. It offers hands-free convenience with simple, preset commands for key features.

For a smoother experience, switch to Advanced Mode in Voice Control settings. This cuts down on prompts, making commands like “Find parking nearby” or “Turn on heated seats” faster.

You can also personalize the system by changing the wake word to “OK, Ford” or “Hello, Ford.” For quicker access, assign a frequently used command to the steering wheel’s “Favorite” button.

This menu lets you run tests on audio, display, and other functions and offers a deeper look into system performance. Customizing these settings can help you get the most out of your car’s tech and tailor it to your needs.

11. Optimize Climate Control

Max Defrost clears foggy windows fast by blasting hot air onto the windshield at full speed. This is perfect for cold or humid mornings when visibility is a challenge.

For everyday comfort, the Automatic Climate Control system is a great set-it-and-forget-it option. Just choose your preferred temperature, and it automatically adjusts fan speed and airflow to keep the cabin comfortable.

For a unique touch, try syncing the climate control with the navigation system. This feature adjusts the temperature based on the sun’s position and intensity, keeping the cabin efficiently cool or warm during longer drives.

12. Turbo Sounds & Steer with Precision

Selectable Drive Modes let you quickly change your car’s driving style. Use Sport Mode for a quicker throttle response and a sportier feel, or switch to Eco Mode for smoother acceleration and better fuel efficiency.

Just use the drive mode selector on the center console to toggle between modes. For added control, Electric Power-Assisted Steering (EPAS) adjusts steering based on speed.

Turn on "Steering Feel" in Sport Mode for sharper handling, which is perfect for winding roads or when you want a more precise, responsive drive. These settings help tailor the driving experience to your preferences.

13. Keep Track of Oil Life Easily

The Intelligent Oil-Life Monitor (IOLM) shows real-time updates on your oil’s health directly on the dashboard.

It tracks oil life based on your driving habits, engine use, and time since the last oil change, helping you plan maintenance better. To reset the oil life percentage after an oil change, navigate through the vehicle’s menu.

For extra insight, use the FordPass app to monitor driving patterns like short trips or heavy acceleration, which can affect oil life. Combining these tools helps you manage your oil care more effectively.
