So far, we've looked at the curb weights for the Grand Cherokee and several other Jeep vehicles. However, on any spec sheet, you will also find the gross vehicle weight rating, often abbreviated as GVWR. So what's the difference?
The curb weight is the weight of the vehicle without cargo or passengers. Gross vehicle weight (GVW) is the actual weight of the vehicle including any cargo and passengers at any point in time. This is the real weight of your vehicle as you drive it.
The GVWR is the maximum GVW the vehicle is approved for. If your GVW is higher than the GVWR, your vehicle may wear down more quickly and may become more difficult to operate.
Exceeding your GVWR can be dangerous for you and others on the road. Because it increases the strain on your engine, transmission, and other components beyond what they are approved for, it will also shorten the lifespan of your vehicle.
GVWR vs GCWR

When it comes to cars, newer models tend to be heavier than older ones, with an average weight of 3,280 pounds.
