Tracking Your Ram Truck Order

Figuring out where your Ram truck is will only require one of two pieces of information. On the Ram website, you will be able to enter either the truck's VIN or your personal VON that was given to you by the dealership.

This is done via their chatbot which can be selected near the top of the screen. This is where you will input your information. Alternately, you can give this same information to the dealership that will be receiving your order and they will provide you with an update.

The VON is the "Vehicle Order Number." You'll get this as soon as you place your order. The VIN, on the other hand, won't be assigned until you are are few weeks into the process. Once you have the VIN, you'll only need the last 8 characters of it for the online tracking system.

As we pointed out earlier in this post, you will be getting email updates from the manufacturer through every step of the process from start to finish. The updates will occur at the following intervals:

  • Confirmation
  • Production
  • Frame
  • Paint
  • Trim
  • Final inspection
  • Shipment
  • Delivery

You can place your Ram truck order by visiting their website.

How Long Does It Take To Get A Ram Truck After Ordering?

Getting behind the wheel of your new Ram truck isn't going to happen as quickly as most of you would like. Supply chain issues have caused a lot of delays in the manufacturing process, creating longer than usual wait times for new Rams.

Expect to wait anywhere from 145 to 159 days for your truck according to a popular Ram forum. Other forums claim a minimum wait of 4 months. The forums tell a different story than the dealerships, which state a wait time of 8 to 10 weeks.

The delay is caused by supply chain issues involving semiconductors. These microchips are in high demand for vehicles, smartphones, and other electronics.

Though it can take months for you to take possession of your Ram, it certainly doesn't take that long to build one from scratch. Should the manufacturing plant have all of the required parts, a new Ram truck can be assembled from start to finish in a little more than a day.

30 hours is the standard turnaround time for a new Ram. But as we pointed out earlier in this post, supply chain issues involving necessary semiconductors are not allowing for manufacturing plants to complete the build process in a timely fashion.

As soon as enough of these microchips are produced and circulated, expect Rams to be produced at their previous rate. Industry experts estimate that by mid-2022, there should be significant improvements in easing the semiconductor shortage.

What Is The Biggest Ram Truck?

While the Ram 1500 and 2500 certainly aren't small pickup trucks, there is one even larger Ram vehicle. The Ram 3500 is the largest passenger truck that Ram currently produces.

The 3500 is in the class of full-ton pickup trucks. This means that its payload capacity is one ton or more.

But the Ram 3500 has a payload capacity that far exceeds that minimum expectation. Depending on the trim level and how you equip it, the 2022 Ram 3500 has a payload capacity between 3,760 pounds and 7,680 pounds.

When Can I Buy A 2022 Ram?

The 2022 Ram is available for purchase now. You will be able to place your order for this popular model online or at your local dealership. Orders were able to be taken for the 2022 model years beginning in mid-2021.

As we mentioned earlier in this post, it will take some time for your 2022 Ram to be delivered to you. A shortage of semiconductors has caused significant disruptions in getting newer vehicles manufactured timely. What used to take a short amount of time is now taking months.

What Is The Cheapest Ram Truck?

For those looking for a bargain, Ram has two base trim levels worthy of your consideration that won't break the bank. These include the Tradesman 1500 Classic and the Express 1500 Classic.

The Tradesman 1500 Classic

The Tradesman trim level has an MSRP of only $29,515. While it lacks many of the bells and whistles of the upper trim levels, it's still a safe and comfortable ride with several amenities to offer.

For this price, you'll get a Ram 1500 quad-cab with a bed length of 6 feet 4 inches. It's a two-wheel-drive model that has a V6 engine under the hood. It has a tow rating of 7,703 pounds.

The base trim level is equipped with a backup camera and electric parking brake. It's considered a fairly stripped-down model of 1500, considered to be more of a work truck than a luxurious ride.

The Express 1500 Classic

This Ram pickup has a starting MSRP a bit higher than the Tradesman at $31,015. Unlike the Tradesman, the Express has alloy wheels and front fog lamps.

Though the interiors of the two trim levels are nearly identical, the Express does come with carpeted floors.

Both trim levels are great bargains. The low starting price coupled with a vehicle that is built to last makes it a good consideration for those who need a powerful truck but don't have it in the budget to get a luxury model or one fully loaded with interior amenities.

What Does 1500 Mean On A Ram?

The "1500" on a Ram does not indicate a brand name or a trim level but rather describes the class of truck that it belongs to.

1500 indicates that the truck belongs to the half-ton class of pickups. This is about the truck's overall payload capacity, meaning the combined weight of cargo and passengers it can have on board. You'll see it on the Chevy Silverado, the GMC Sierra, and others.

Years ago, half-ton trucks did have a payload capacity that was about 1,000 pounds. But with evolving technology and better manufacturing, these half-ton trucks will typically have a payload that is much higher than the "half-ton" designation indicates.

Your owner's manual will list the exact payload capacity of your particular model truck. For the sake of your truck's functionality and your safety, never exceed the payload capacity.

Tracking the order of your Ram truck is a quick and easy process but not necessary, as Ram will send you updates by email. Global shortages of vital semiconductors have slowed the manufacturing process, but Rams are still being built in anticipation of these chips slowly arriving. Drive safe!
