Raptor Liner vs. Rhino Liner

Spray-on liners offer more durable and reliable protection for your truck's bed, unlike drop-in liners.

Drop-in liners are cheaper compared to spray-on liners. However, they are not permanent and need to be removed and replaced regularly to ensure their efficiency. Hence, it's best that you invest in spray-on liners.

Two of the most popular spray-on bed liners for trucks today are Raptor Liner and Rhino Liner. Both products offer similar and, at the same time, different properties that can help boost your bed liner's overall feature.

But which one's better? Well, at the end of the day, both are great choices depending on your preferences

Let's compare them by discussing their similarities and differences to help you settle on a decision.

Similarities

Raptor and Rhino liners have a lot in common. We know they are both spray-on liners, but here are some more similarities:

Variety of colors

One of the things Raptor Liner and Rhino Liner have in common is that they come and can be sprayed in different colors. As a matter of fact, both spray-on liners let you mix two or more colors and customize them to match your color specification.

Thick coating

Both Raptor Liner and Rhino Liner have a thick coating that makes them more durable and efficient. True to its claim, Rhino Liners are even used by the different branches of the military all over the world to help them protect against shrapnel.

Reduce noise and evenly distribute pressure

Layers of Rhino Liner's elastomeric coating help deaden sound and noise levels and increase elasticity and opacity.

This is the reason why when you carry heavy objects at the back of your moving truck, the lining doesn't get damaged and the hit, if there is any, won't cause any noise due to the liner's thickness and even distribution of pressure.

Like Rhino Liner, Raptor Liner is also applied by some users as a sound dampener because of its ability to reduce noise or impact.

Can be applied to a variety of surfaces

Raptor Liner can be applied to a wide range of surfaces including wood,  plastic, metal, concrete, and composites.

Rhino Liner can also be applied on concrete, wood, metal, fiberglass, geotextile, polyurethane surfaces, some plastics, and more.

Protection against elements

With its 2-part urethane formulation, Raptor Liner offers UV protection, as well as stains, scratches, and water resistance.

Since Raptor Liner protects your truck bed from harmful UV rays, the coating won't fade after years of sun exposure. It also protects your vehicle from rusting when frequently exposed to water, including seawater.

Rhino Liner has several coating formulations that focus on certain properties, their Solar Max, ColorMatch, and TuffGrip linings are the best coats that offer UV protection. Like Raptor Liner, Rhino Liner also offers water and chemical-resistant coating.

Environmentally friendly formulations

Raptor Liner's manufacturer has been dedicated to producing coating formulation that contains low Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC). Their UP0820V and UP0825 formulas are the ones considered the most environmentally friendly coating formulations.

Likewise, Rhino Liner's coating formula contains zero to low VOC. Their formulation also has no chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) content.

Differences

We've done discussing the similarities between a Raptor Liner and a Rhino Liner, now here are the following features that differentiate them from each other:

Warranty

U-Pol, the manufacturer of Raptor Liner, has stated in their terms and conditions that they will give a warranty of 12 months for their goods and services.

As to Rhino Liners, they offer a nationwide limited lifetime warranty for their bed liners.

Application

Raptor spray-on liners are marketed through a "do it yourself" kit. The kit also contains all the needed tools for the application. Hence, it can be applied by the buyer himself.

On the contrary, Rhino Liners can only be applied by a professional— a licensed Rhino Linings applicator— to ensure the quality of the application.

Raptor spray-on liner would last depending on the quality of preparation, application, film build, method, and substrate. However, we can conclude that when it is applied correctly, it would last for years.

How long does Rhino liner last?

Rhino spray-on bed liners are designed to last forever. However, the manufacturer doesn't claim that their product is indestructible.

How much does a Rhino lining cost?

A Rhino Lining's cost would depend on the size of your truck's bed—the bigger the bed, the higher the price. However, the minimum cost for a Rhino bed liner spray would be $499.

Why choose Raptor Liner?

If you're the kind of person who wants to do things on your own, then, you should consider getting the Raptor Liner. If you're on a budget and want to save money on installation/application fees, this liner is for you.

However, take note that if you choose Raptor Liner as your truck bed's lining, make sure that you're skillful enough to properly perform the entire application procedure. Improper application of the lining could definitely affect the quality of your truck's bed and could cause issues in the future.

Why choose Rhino Liner?

Firstly, if you want a smoother and clean-looking bed liner, it might not hurt to spend a couple of dollars more just to achieve it. And of course, if you don't have any idea how to properly apply a bed liner, then it's best that you let a professional do it for you.

If you're the kind of person who takes into consideration a product's warranty coverage, then you should get a Rhino Liner.

What are the benefits of a spray-on bed liner?

Aside from the ones mentioned above, other benefits of a spray-on bed liner are the following:

  1. Spray-on liners offer a smooth aesthetic. They not only give you that cool appearance but the smooth finish also covers all the paint scratches, chips, and dents.
  2. Unlike drop-in liners, spray-on liners are totally repairable should any damage occur due to their normal wear and tear or abuse.
  3. Spray-on bed liners significantly reduce the amount of repair and maintenance work your truck bed needs.
  4. Since you only need to spray the coating into your truck bed, you don't need to measure or adjust your liner just to get a perfect fit. A spray-on liner molds to the exact shape and size of your truck bed.

Are bed liners bad for trucks?

Generally, bed liners are a must for every truck. However, if you install plastic or drop-in bed liner, it would, later on, lead to damage especially since it tends to trap debris and gets loosened over time.

  1. Question; I’m trying to install a boat lift in sea water. Will either the raptor or rhino lining withstand the water erosion and discoloration? How long will it last on the salt water environment? So you have color matching for the liner as it would be sprayed on 30 foot long and 10 inch wide pilings/pilons. Thank you
