RVs with a Rear Living Room [Inc. 12 examples]

RVs with a Rear Living Room [Inc. 12 examples]Finding the perfect RV layout for you and your family can be confusing and exhausting, so today we are helping you out by providing a list of 12 great rear-living room floorplans. We have both travel trailers and 5th wheel trailers for you to review. Hopefully, this list will help you find the perfect trailer! First, however, let's discuss why such a floorplan may or may not work out for you.

Pros and Cons of a Rear Living Room Layout

Pros

Higher Ceilings

In 5th wheel models, a rear-living arrangement means you have much more headroom vs in a front-living layout.

More Outside Storage Room

Some front-living floorplans offer only half as much outside storage space as rear-living models.

Better TV-viewing Angles

Front-living layouts create some difficult TV-viewing angles, but most rear-living floorplans are able to offer seating directly across from the entertainment center.

Cons

Smaller Entertainment Centers

Because one entire wall is usually not dedicated to an entertainment center, rear-living RVs often fail to include a large TV.

Smaller Kitchen

You will notice that some rear-living models have a smaller kitchen than rear-kitchen trailers because the galley is confined to just one portion of one wall.

Travel Trailers With A Rear Living Room

Travel trailers hitch right up to your bumper. That means you can tow these with a truck or an SUV - or even, sometimes, a car. That makes travel trailers the most flexible option for RV shoppers. Just make sure your tow vehicle is rated for the job!

Airstream Globetrotter 25FB Twin

Airstream's Scandinavian-sleek styling makes the Globetrotter a truly unique trailer on this list. Instead of the usual sofa and theater- or loveseat combo in the living room, we have a simple dinette and two-seat sofa area as an extension of the seating on one side. The large wrap-around windows make the whole experience feel upscale, however - as will the price tag. Oh, and one more detail is important to know upfront - there are two twin beds instead of a king or queen.

Forest River Cedar Creek Cottage 40CRS

That Forest River uses "cottage" in the name of this trailer should tell you everything you need to know. First off, this trailer is big at nearly 42 feet long, and it has tons of great features, including a spacious rear living room. Two large slideouts create a super comfortable space, and there is plenty of seating with a sofa, two swivel chairs, and a dining table. Once seated, you can enjoy the entertainment center that includes a TV and fireplace. A king bed and washer/dryer combo mean this is truly a trailer you can live out of.

Forest River Sandpiper Destination 404QBWD

The Sandpiper Destination is another rare travel trailer that is built more like a 5th wheel. With 4 slide-outs, it gives you tons of interior space and residential features like a washer and dryer, ceiling fan, and large fireplace. And there are technically two living areas - one at the back and one in the middle of the trailer - both have a sofa and entertainment center. At over 42 feet long and nearly 11,000 pounds, however, you will most likely need a heavy-duty truck for this job.

Grand Design Transcend 31RLK

Large panoramic windows create a wonderfully open-feeling living space in this Grand Design Transcend travel trailer. Of course, the two large slides help in that area as well. The residential-grade furniture ensures that you will always feel at home in this 37-foot trailer. Chefs will delight in the large kitchen complete with a large undermount sink and tons of counter space.

Jayco Eagle HT 280RSOK

The 35-foot Eagle HT is a great trailer for small families seeking a rear-living floorplan. Your family can enjoy movie nights from the comfort of a large sofa or wall-hugger theater seating. Keystone Springdale 333RE

The Springdale is a reasonably-sized travel trailer that won't break the bank. With a love seat and two theater seats, the living room offers an open and comfortable area to spend some time. You won't confuse the small entertainment center for a movie theater, but it is nevertheless adequate for just about any type of entertainment you prefer to bring along. A lovely kitchen and generously large bath and bedrooms round out the interior features of this 37-foot trailer.

5th Wheels

Unlike travel trailers, 5th wheel trailers use a hitch inside a truck bed, so no SUV can pull a 5th wheel. There are several advantages to this arrangement, however: your overall rig's length will shorter, and it provides a more stable towing experience. 5th wheels are often more luxurious than travel trailers to boot.

CrossRoads Cruiser Aire

At just 6,754 lbs, the Cruiser Aire is on the small side for 5th wheels, but it still manages to offer many high-end features found on larger trailers. In the rear living room, one wall containing the U-shaped dinette and refrigerator slide out. Meanwhile, there is no kitchen island to get in the way, so the whole room feels open and airy (or is that "Aire?").  Sitting on the sofa located on the back wall, you can view the nicely-integrated television or see what's happening in the kitchen. A king bed and a large bathroom will also help you feel at home.

Dutchmen Astoria 3173RLP

The Astoria 3173RLP is a new layout for Dutchmen, and this 5th wheel has some great features to explore. At the rear of this 36-foot trailer, there is a tri-fold sofa and two theater seats. From those seats, you may enjoy the entertainment center outfitted with a fireplace. Two large slideouts help make the kitchen and living area feel extra spacious, and the bathroom is roomy as well. Yes, you can really spread out and enjoy this 5th wheel.

Gulfstream Sedona 27FRLD

Because it is under 30 feet long, this Gulfstream Sedona 5th wheel will be exceptionally easy to tow and maneuver. Upon entering the trailer, you are greeted by the spacious living area. Complete with two lounge chairs and a sofa, this is the perfect place to relax. A small entertainment center provides you with a television and fireplace. Also small is the kitchen, which does not offer much counter space, so keep this in mind if you love cooking inside your trailer.

Heartland Milestone 360RD

This truly unique Heartland Milestone offers a wonderful living area that is quite unlike any other on this list. That's because, even though it is located in the rear of the trailer, it is raised up, just like a front-living area would be. While that means the ceilings aren't as high as in a traditional 5th wheels, this layout gives the Milestone a very high-end feel. And the living space looks about as comfortable as any I have seen in an RV. The seating arrangement is especially generous with two sofas, both with their own slideout, and a love seat.

Jayco Eagle HTX 26RLX

Jayco designed the Eagle HTX to be half-ton towable. That means it is slightly smaller than most other 5th wheel models. Upon entering the trailer, you will find a nice little living space featuring a tri-fold sofa and two recliner chairs. While the entertainment center features a surprisingly large TV, the kitchen is definitely on the small end. Still, there are plenty of luxury features to appreciate here.

Keystone Cougar 30RLS

Keystone's Cougar 30RLS is another great 5th wheel with a rear living space. This trailer offers two seating areas - one loveseat and one area with theater seats - to enjoy your living room from. You can choose either a booth dinette or a free-standing table for the kitchen seating area. A large island will make cooking a breeze, and there is plenty of kitchen storage so you can just go ahead and bring it all for those long camping trips.
