Finding out the cause of the issue should be the first step to fixing the audio system. But you might only need to reset the sound system to restore the subwoofers’ normal functions.

How To Replace The Subwoofer In A Tesla Model 3?

What You’ll Need
- Panel remover
- Ratchet and socket set
- Wrench set
- Replacement subwoofer installation kit
Step #1: Park The Vehicle
Drive your Tesla Model 3 into a safe and shaded spot. Make sure that the car is on flat and level ground. Engage its brakes, and chock the wheels to ensure the vehicle doesn’t move while you’re working on it.
Step #2: Remove The Rear Panels
Open the Tesla Model 3’s trunk. Next, remove the panel clips securing the rear speaker setup. Pull out the panel afterward.
Moving forward, remove the rubber gasket by pulling it from its mount. Then, set it aside temporarily. You should be able to expose the lower panel after removing the rubber gasket. Once exposed, pull the lower panel from its mount and set it aside.
Step #3: Remove The Back Seat
Take note that the back seat secures the trunk liner. It should also be the last piece covering the rear subwoofer.
Start this step by flipping a lever from the back seat. Doing so should loosen the seat cushion. Pull up the seat cushion and disconnect the wire attached to it. You should be able to remove the seat cushion and set it aside for now. Don’t forget to remove the cushion from the other back seat as well.
Next, remove the back cushion by tugging it out of its mount. It might be quite challenging to pull it out as clips secure the assembly. You’ll hear an audible snapping sound, signifying the cushion’s release. Pull the cushion up and out of its assembly afterward. Again, repeat this part of the procedure for the other seat.
Remove the rest of the back seat assembly by unscrewing the bolts for each side. Then, disconnect the wire harness from the seat. Pull out the newly exposed panel afterward.
Step #4: Replace The Subwoofer
Remove the remaining covers from the Tesla Model 3’s trunk. Doing so should expose the car’s subwoofer and amplifier assembly.
Disconnect the wires attached to the subwoofer. Then, unscrew it from its wall mount. Gently pull out the old subwoofer afterward. Next, install the new subwoofer according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
At this point, you can test the new subwoofer by turning on the vehicle’s audio system. Play some tracks, especially those with deep bass signatures. If the new unit is working as intended, continue to the next step. Otherwise, troubleshoot the issues you may come across at this time.
Tip: Take a picture of the old subwoofer assembly. That way, you won’t forget the placement of the wires for the new unit.
Step #5: Reinstall The Removed Parts
Return the trunk covers to hide and secure the new subwoofer. Next, reinstall the back seat assembly. Don’t forget to reinstall the rubber gasket, which may need a fresh application of adhesive for it to stick.
