Tire pressure can be affected in extreme situations. As long as the weight you're carrying in your vehicle doesn't exceed your tires' maximum load capabilities, you shouldn't see a change in tire pressure.

However, if you're carrying a lot of cargo, it's important to double-check your total weight. If the weight of your cargo and passengers exceeds your tires' capabilities, you can overload your vehicle.  Overloading your vehicle can cause many damages to your car and roads alike. A heavy car puts strains on your tires and your engine. It is also less stable to drive and has worse fuel consumption. How do I check PSI?

Checking the tire pressure for your car is a fairly simple process. First, you'll need to make sure you have a tire pressure gauge. These gauges are small enough that they can fit in your glove compartment for easy storage.

Once you have your tire pressure gauge, you'll need to locate the valve cap on one of your tires. Remove this cap and then insert the gauge into the valve stem on the tire. Read the pressure from your gauge and add any air if necessary. Finally, replace the valve cap. You're all finished once you've completed all four tires.

What happens if tire pressure is too high?

If you add too much air into your tires, you risk distorting the tire shape. This leads to decreased traction on the road. Not only that, but you also run a greater risk of damaging your tires. An overfilled tire is less flexible. This inflexibility makes them more likely to be damaged by debris and potholes.

What happens if PSI is too low?

Driving with tire pressure that is too low can be dangerous. The sidewalls of tires flex more when they're underinflated. This flexing can cause heat to build up within the tire. If this heat gets severe, then the rubber of the tire can separate from its carcass. This sudden lack of air pressure is called a tire blowout. Tire blowouts are dangerous and can cause you to lose control of your vehicle.
