The Toyota RAV4 has proven itself a good option for many people in the past several years. With a variety of trim levels available, it might just be the right crossover for you. But if you are looking for something with a more luxurious feel and better durability than standard fabric seats, you may be wondering if it has leather seats available. We did the research and found the answers you need.
The RAV4 has a synthetic leather material they call SofTex, available on several trim levels. None of the trim levels of RAV4 have real leather seats available. SofTex has a similar look and feel to genuine leather, but has the advantages of being cooler in the summer and more stain-resistant. It also adds a lot less to the price tag of the vehicle.

RAV4 Available Seating Materials By Trim Level And Color
The RAV4 underwent a redesign for the current generation, which began in 2019. This redesign brought a new group of available colors, both interior, and exterior. Some exterior colors have a different group of interior color options. The following are the available combinations of exterior colors and interior colors we found for each of the trim levels, as well as what seating materials are available.
LE/LE Hybrid
The LE and LE Hybrid come with fabric seats only.
Black is the only color option available with these exterior colors:
- Magnetic Gray Metallic
- Blue Flame
- Silver Sky Metallic
You have the option of either Black or Nutmeg with the following exterior colors:
- Super White
- Midnight Black Metallic
- Ruby Flare Pearl
XLE/XLE Premium/XLE Hybrid
On the XLE and XLE Hybrid, the seats are fabric, while the XLE Premium comes with SofTex-trimmed seats standard, but these all have the same color options.
Black or Light Gray are the color options available with these exterior colors:
- Magnetic Gray Metallic
- Blue Flame
- Silver Sky Metallic
You have the option of either Black, Light Gray, or Nutmeg with the following exterior colors:
- Super White
- Midnight Black Metallic
- Ruby Flare Pearl
- Blueprint
Adventure
The Adventure comes standard with SofTex-trimmed seats.
On all external colors of the RAV4 Adventure, you have the option of Black or Mocha seats.
XSE Hybrid
The XSE Hybrid RAV4 comes standard with SofTex-trimmed seats. In 2020 the seats were Black with blue accents, whereas, in 2019, they were solid Black.
Limited/Limited Hybrid
The Limited and Limited Hybrid comes with SofTex-trimmed seats.
Black or Light Gray are the color options available with these exterior colors:
- Magnetic Light Gray
- Silver Sky Metallic
You have the option of either Black, Light Gray, or Nutmeg with the following exterior colors:
- Midnight Black Metallic
- Ruby Flare Pearl
- Blueprint
- Blizzard Pearl
TRD Offroad
The TRD Offroad comes with SofTex-trimmed seats as standard, with Black being the only option.

The Previous generation of RAV4 had an even wider variety of colors and trim levels available throughout its run. The one thing that is consistent between that the fourth generation of RAV4 and this fifth generation is that the lower trim levels had fabric seats, while the higher trim levels came with the SofTex-trimmed seats. So trim levels like the LE always had the fabric, and trim levels like the Limited have always had the SofTex.
Does RAV4 Have Leather Interior?
The shifter and steering wheel are available in leather on some trim levels and packages. The interior seating and trim are synthetic leather, SofTex, on the packages and trim levels it is available on.
Are Toyota Leather Seats Real Leather?
The seats on a RAV4 are not real leather, but a synthetic leather material Toyota calls SofTex, which is easier to clean and maintain than real leather. It has other advantages as well, such as breathing better, being less hot in the summer months, and has better wear resistance.
RAV4 Interior Colors For Leather Upholstery?
The available colors for the RAV4 synthetic leather upholstery, known as SofTex, varies based on the trim level. You have the options of Nutmeg, Black, Light Gray, or Mocha.
What Does Leather-Trimmed Seats Mean For A Toyota?
The term leather-trimmed means only a portion of the seat is actual leather, with the remaining part a fabric of some kind, sometimes vinyl. On a Toyota, this means the area where you will contact the seat will be leather. The seat-top and backrest area will be leather, while the sides and back of the seat will be fabric. On the RAV4, this won't actually be leather; it will be SofTex, their synthetic leather material.
