Why Does My Harley Davidson Say Enter Pin? What To Do?

You stopped over at a gas station, but when you turned the key fob on, you were greeted with a message that said "Enter Pin" on the display screen. What does this mean? We have researched this issue and have the solution.

There are two reasons why you may get an "Enter PIN" message on the display screen. Either your key fob battery is losing power, or it is more than two meters away from the motorcycle.

Another reason could be that you're in an area with high radio interference that blocks the signal from the key fob to the motorcycle. Try calling a friend to see if you hear a static sound. If you do, you're in an area with high radio interference.

What to do:

  1. Make sure your key fob is within the acceptable range.
  2. If it's still a "no go," replace the battery with a new one.
  3. Move your motorcycle away if you're in an area with high radio interference.

Entering the pin code on your motorcycle can be tricky if you don't know where to look. In this guide, we'll talk about how to find the pin code on a Harley Davidson motorcycle and how to change it without the help of a mechanic so keep reading!

How Often Should A Harley Davidson Key Fob Battery Be Replaced?

A Harley Davidson key fob battery is expected to ideally last for a couple of years. However, its lifespan depends on how frequently you use it. Typically, it lasts for about one year at best.

Even if the battery still has some juice left in it, we recommend that you change it every year. Always bring a spare battery with you when you ride because you'll never know if you're going to need it.

How Do I Disable Harley Davidson Security Mode?

The Harley Davidson security mode is an interesting thing that comes with your bike. The mode is a feature that automatically activates an alarm whenever it detects motion, and there is something suspicious going on.

Disabling your Harley Davidson smart security system is a fairly simple task. You can do this either by using your key fob or by entering the pin code.

What Happens If You Forget To Put Your Harley Davidson In Transport Mode On A Trailer?

Your Harley Davidson has a built-in security system. There's a sensor that sits above the ECM right under the seat that detects motion, and when it detects the slightest movement, the system will activate the alarm.

If you're planning to take your bike to a trailer, then you must put it into transport mode. Otherwise, the security system might be triggered, and your battery will be drained without your knowledge.

Transport mode basically tells your bike's ECM that the motion detected is not suggestive of suspicious activity.

Do I Need To Reprogram Key Fob After Replacing Its Battery?

Changing the batteries in your key fob is not usually a big deal. You'll get to do it once when you first get the key fob and then again if the battery life is low. Unless you're unhappy with how the key fob works, just leave it alone and don't worry about it.

However, when the key fob goes in for service, the mechanic will check the electronics and the wiring. The key fob has a little chip in it that stores information about your bike and how it works.

If found defective, he might have to replace some of the internal wiring and components, and this can be a daunting task.

For this reason, he may recommend getting you a new key fob to make it easier for both of you instead of wasting time looking for the correct parts replacement [not to mention it's not a cost-efficient option].

All he needs to do is to reprogram the key fob for it to work, and this will only take him a few minutes to complete the job. If you're interested to know how to program your key fob, you should check the video below.

How To Know If Your Key Fob Needs Replacement

Whether you are looking to test your current key fob or a brand new one, you should be able to test the signal strength using a key fob tester.

All you need to do is to turn the testing tool on and establish a connection to the key fob. You do this by pointing the transmitter of the key fob to a small square window that acts as a receiver.

A LED light indicator will light up if it's a battery issue or not. There are also two LED light indicators that will light up, indicating if you have a strong signal [new battery] or a mediocre signal [for a battery that has been around for some time].

The intensity of the pulses will vary depending on the strength of the signal.

In case you don't know, the codes in your Harley-Davidson motorcycle refer to specific problem areas of your motorcycle and automatically change the settings of the engine.

There are different types of codes for each component of the motorcycle. Some codes are for the engine, some are for the transmission, and others are for the exhaust system.

These codes are important because they are related to the safety and performance of your motorcycle.

You can clear the codes on the display screen by pushing and holding the odometer button for at least 5 seconds. Release the button once you see the message "Clear."

In Closing
