What Are The Ford Expedition Cargo Space Specs? [Breakdown By Trim Level]

If you're shopping for a roomy SUV, you might have your eye on the Ford Expedition. With three rows of available seating, this sport utility vehicle is popular with families, especially travelers. Before you settle on any vehicle, you'll want to know precisely how much you can bring on board. We researched all of the specs for the Ford Expedition, so that you'll know exactly how much room you can expect.

The Ford Expedition's cargo space varies greatly by trim level. The range of cubic space is 19.3 cubic feet to 34.3 cubic feet. The difference in cargo space isn't dependent upon which trim level you are considering. Rather, it's based on whether or not you choose a base edition or a MAX edition. Below are the two editions, with the available trim levels for each:

  • The Ford Expedition base models all have 19.3 cubic feet of storage space; these include, XLT, Limited, STX, STX 4x4, XLT 4x4, Limited, Limited 4x4, King Ranch, Platinum, King Ranch 4x4, and the Platinum 4x4.
  • The Ford Expedition MAX models all have 34.3 cubic feet of cargo space; these include, XLT MAX, XLT MAX 4x4, Limited MAX, Limited MAX 4x4, King Ranch MAX, King Ranch MAX 4x4, Platinum MAX, and Platinum MAX 4x4 .

Now that we know the range of cargo room by edition, we'll look at the available room row by row. Adding more cargo room inside your Expedition

As we noted earlier in this post, the cargo room in the Expedition ranges from 19.3 cubic feet to 34.3 cubic feet. You can, however, increase this room greatly by reconfiguring the seats. This can be done quickly and easily, without any tools. Consult your owner's manual for the best way to do this.

Base edition Expeditions

The trim levels included in the base edition are the:

  • Expedition XLT
  • Limited
  • STX
  • STX 4x4
  • XLT 4x4
  • Limited 4x4
  • King Ranch
  • Platinum
  • King Ranch 4x4
  • and Platinum 4x4

Reconfiguring the seats in the base editions is easy and will allow for a lot more cargo room.

Should you fold the third row of seats down, the cargo space increases from 57.5 cubic feet to 63.6 cubic feet. Additionally, you can fold the second row of seats down for even more room. Doing so will give you a total of 104.6 cubic feet of cargo room.

MAX edition Expeditions

The Expedition is available in the MAX options for the:

  • XLT
  • XLT 4x4
  • Limited
  • Limited 4x4
  • King Ranch
  • King Ranch 4x4
  • Platinum
  • and Platinum 4x4

The Max options have a longer wheelbase, which allows for a longer vehicle. The difference in the cargo room beyond the third row is nearly 15 cubic feet. This difference adds a considerable amount of difference in the total cargo area to which you can increase this edition.

Folding the third row of seats down in the MAX editions will lead to 73.3 to 79.3 cubic feet of total cargo room. Fold in the second row of seats, and you'll increase that total space to 121.5 cubic feet.

No matter which edition of Ford Expedition you choose, knowing that you have the option of greatly increasing the amount of storage space is a relief for those who need the room. Ahead in this post, we'll be looking at how the Cargo Package will add even more room.

What is the Ford Expedition Cargo Package?

If you are considering the XLT, the Limited, or the King Ranch trim levels, you have the option of getting the Cargo Package. This package includes two other features not available to the other trim levels.

Advanced Cargo Manager

Beyond the third row of seating, there is a cargo hold. On the floor of this hold are two single panel doors. Each of these panels can be removed and used as dividers or shelving. Underneath them is more storage area. One holds the tire jack and lug wrench, while the other is available space. Having this sturdy shelving available will add additional storage space within your Expedition.

Black roof-rail crossbars

As an added feature, the Cargo Package will include these handy roof-rail crossbars. These will enable you to safely stow and secure additional cargo on the top of your SUV. Trunks, suitcases, and other containers can be placed within the bars and tied down. This leaves more room on the inside of the Expedition for cargo and passengers.

Which Ford Expedition has the largest cargo area?

The largest cargo area that is available in a Ford Expedition comes with any of the MAX trim levels. The XLT, STX, Limited, King Ranch, and Platinum models are all available in the MAX trim. Each of these also has four-wheel drive as an option.

Which has more cargo area: Expedition or Suburban?

While each of these popular SUVs boasts plenty of cargo room onboard, the Chevy Suburban has substantially more. The external measurements are quite different, by comparison. At 225.7 inches long and 81.5 inches wide, the Suburban is able to have a lot of extra space that the Expedition doesn't. As the largest trim level Expedition only measures up to 221.9" long by 79.9" wide, you can see why there is a stark difference.
