Ford Maverick Towing

The standard towing capacity for the 2022 Ford Maverick is 2,000 pounds. This is relatively low for a pickup truck. Other mid-size and compact-size trucks can tow a minimum of 3,500 pounds.

Hybrid Engine Specifications And Capabilities

One thing the Maverick has that others don't is a standard full-hybrid engine. Each Ford Maverick comes standard with a 2.5-liter hybrid engine. It's the first and only pickup truck to offer this type of engine as a standard configuration.

The hybrid engine is only available with front-wheel drive. It also isn't capable of upgrading to the 4K Tow package. Despite those limitations, the Maverick has superior gas mileage. This vehicle will get 42 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway.

Optional Towing Capabilities

The Ford Maverick is also available with a 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine. With the EcoBoost engine, you can get your truck in either front-wheel or all-wheel drive.

There is no change in towing capabilities for the 2.0-liter engine with front-wheel drive. However, the all-wheel drive configuration can haul a maximum amount of 4,000 pounds.

EcoBoost Specifications And Capabilities

The 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine in front-wheel drive gets 23 city mpg and 20 highway mpg. The all-wheel drive configuration gets 22 city mpg and 29 highway mpg. The Ford Maverick with the 2.0-liter engine has a 16.5-gallon fuel capacity regardless of drive type.

The 2.0 EcoBoost engine puts out 250 horsepower at 5,500 revolutions per minute. While the 2.5-liter hybrid engine has a power-split transmission, the EcoBoost has an 8-speed automatic transmission.

About Maximum Towing Weights

The maximum weight that the Ford Maverick can tow is 2,000 or 4,000 pounds. However, this doesn't consider the different equipment that can be installed on the vehicle. Always check the vehicle stickers inside the doors for your specific vehicle's towing capabilities.

Trailer Hitch Classifications

Towing hitch

Another thing that can affect the amount you can tow is the class level of your trailer hitch. There are five different classes. However, the Ford Maverick will have either a Class 2 or Class 3 hitch depending on your selected configuration.

A Class 2 hitch comes standard on all Mavericks without the 4K Towing package. A hitch at this level can withstand a tongue weight of up to 350 pounds. The Class 2 hitch can typically tow up to 3,500 pounds. However, this will be reduced because of the Maverick's capabilities.

A Class 3 hitch comes standard on all Ford Mavericks with the 4K Towing package. Ford Maverick trailer hitches for these vehicles can withstand a tongue weight of up to 400 pounds. They can also carry up to 4,000 pounds.

If you plan on using a trailer that weighs more than 2,000 pounds, it's required that you get the 4K Towing package. You can generally use smaller trailers without upgrading. However, many teardrop trailers, car trailers, and other large trailers will need an upgraded Maverick to tow them.

Ford Maverick Trim Options

The Maverick comes in three different trim levels. These trims are called the XL, XLT, and Lariat. Each type of Maverick can be purchased with either the 2.5-liter hybrid engine or the 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine. Each trim level also offers the 4,000-pound towing package.

Let's take a closer look at what each trim level has to offer.

Maverick XL

The base level Maverick has a starting cost of $19,995. This vehicle comes standard with black onyx cloth seats, an 8-inch LCD touchscreen, and power locks and windows.

If you wish to upgrade your XL, you can add up to two different packages. The first package is the 4K Tow package. This one allows you to tow up to 4,000 pounds.

The second is the Ford Co-Pilot360 package. The Co-Pilot360 technology works alongside drivers to create a safer environment. This technology can alert you to cross traffic around you or when you depart your lane and can deploy your brakes in emergency situations.

Maverick XLT

The Maverick XLT has a starting price of $22,360. This vehicle comes standard with navy cloth seats and many of the features present in the baseline model.

The XLT has several more options to upgrade your driving experience. For this vehicle, you can add heated seats and 8-way power seating. In addition, you can upgrade from a 4.2-inch instrument screen to a 6.5-inch instrument screen.

You also have more packages to choose from for this trim level. The Ford Maverick XLT can select between four different packages. In addition to the 4K package and Co-Pilot360 package, you can also choose an XLT Luxury package or an Off-Road package.

The XLT Luxury package adds the following features:

  • Heated 8-way power driver seat

In addition to the 4K Tow Package, Co-Pilot360 package, and Off-Road package, you can select one other package. The additional package you can choose is called the Lariat Luxury package.

The Luxury package for the Lariat includes the following features:

  • Premium speaker sound system
  • Heated mirror, steering wheel, and seats
  • LED box lighting
  • Rear parking sensors

When the Maverick was first introduced, Ford also released a limited number of vehicles with the First Edition Trim package. These vehicles were exclusive to Lariats with the Luxury package. Cars with this package include black-painted wheels and roof. It also includes a unique First Edition decal.

While the 4K Towing package comes standard with a receiver, it doesn't come with any other required equipment. As the buyer of the vehicle, you're expected to be able to purchase the appropriate trailer ball and ball mounting equipment.

Your vehicle can tow up to either 2,000 pounds or 4,000 pounds. However, those numbers can be limited by the capabilities of your trailer ball and other equipment.

Reese Class 3 Starter Kit

The great thing about this product is that it has everything you need. The Class 3 Starter Kit comes with a 2-inch ball and an 8-inch long ball mount. The ball mount will fit into most 2-inch receivers.

This hitch set can tow up to 6,000 pounds. Remember, even with the upgraded tow package, the Ford Maverick can only tow up to 4,000 pounds. Be sure to stay within the vehicle's limits, not just the towing equipment's limits.

Is The Ford Maverick Practical?

The Ford Maverick is a practical car! These cars are incredibly affordable, with the highest trim level having a starting cost of just under $26,000. Both the hybrid and gas engine versions of this vehicle get excellent gas mileage.

All versions of the Maverick have a five-passenger seating capacity. The cab's interior is relatively spacious. The front seats get a head room of 40.3 inches and leg room of 42.8 inches.
