Does the Hyundai Palisade have a built-in garage door opener?

The Hyundai Palisade is a full-sized SUV made for the US market by the Korean automaker. The Palisade has several advanced features that are common on modern SUVs, like lane-keep assist, towing capabilities, and seating for up to eight passengers. Among those features is a built-in triple garage opener.

You will find the three-button built-in garage opener on the Hyundai Palisade on the thin plastic bottom border of the rearview mirror. This garage door opener system can hold information and link to three different garage doors or gates. You can link any of the three individual garage openers or delete their presets easily within a few minutes.

A company called HomeLink manufactures the garage door openers that come standard in the Hyundai Palisade. According to their website, they are the most widely used remote control system. The HomeLink name makes the Palisade reliable in the garage door opener category.

How to Program the Palisade Garage Door Opener

You can program your garage door opener on the Hyundai Palisade using the remote that comes with the garage door opener system. The process only takes a few minutes and doesn't require any hardware or automotive tools. The only thing you will need is the original garage opener. It is not possible to program the Palisade garage opener without this remote. To program your Palisade garage door opener to your garage door, follow these steps:

  1. First, make sure that your Palisade is parked just outside your garage and that you have the original garage opener in hand, inside the driver's seat of the vehicle.
  2. Turn the vehicle on and close the garage door.
  3. Delete any saved garage presets on the Palisade garage door openers (see below for instructions on deleting programmed garages from the Palisade).
  4. Choose which of the three buttons with which you want to program your garage.
  5. Lastly, simultaneously hold the button on the Palisade mirror and the button on the original garage remote until the light on the mirror flashes red in rapid succession.

For some garage door opener receiver models, the process ends with Step 5. However, if your garage door opener receiver is a rolling code model, there are a few extra steps. After completing Steps 1 through 5, go into the garage and press the "learn" button that is on the garage door receiver. You can use a ladder if you need it to find and reach this button.

After pressing the button, go directly back to the front seat of the Palisade. Press the correct HomeLink button on the mirror and hold for two seconds before releasing it. Repeat that two more times and the garage will be paired.

How to Delete Existing Garage Pairings on the Hyundai Palisade

If you bought your Palisade used or get a new garage door opener installed, it may be necessary to delete the garages that you or someone else has programmed into the onboard garage door opener. To delete garage pairings from your Palisade's garage opener, follow these steps:

  1. First, ensure that the Palisade is on and in the "park" position.
  2. Next, using two fingers, press and hold both the garage opener button on the far left and the one on the far right.
  3. While you are holding the buttons down, a red light will appear. Hold the buttons while the light is on until the red light begins flashing.
  4. Finally, the Palisade garage door buttons are now clear and ready for their next pairing.

Are all Garage Door Opener Remotes Compatible with the Palisade?

There are several brands of garage door openers on the market. Fortunately for Hyundai and current or potential owners of the Palisade SUV, the garage door openers that come standard are from HomeLink. HomeLink garage door openers are used universally and will work with nearly every garage door opener receiver on the market.

How many Garages/Gates can you link to in the Palisades Opener?

If you live in a large house or farm, you may have multiple garages or even an outside gate that you need to open from within your Palisade. Luckily, the Hyundai Palisade has three separate garage door or gate opening buttons, called Home Links. These three Home Link buttons can link to three separate openers. However, the existence of the three buttons does mean that three garages or gates are the limit that the Palisade can handle.

If you need to open more than three gates or garages, there is another solution. You can always buy a universal multi-garage opener remote from an online store like Amazon. This will keep you from having several different openers inside your vehicle. They sometimes even come in key chain varieties that are easy to transport between cars.

How do you operate the Palisades Garage Door Opener?

Now that we've discussed the setup process, the capabilities, and the limitations of the Palisade garage opener, let's discuss how the feature is actually used. Assuming that you set up your Hyundai/HomeLink garage opener, the operating process is quite simple. All you need to do is ensure that your vehicle is in range of the garage, and therefore the receiver. If you are in range, you can press the button paired with the receiver once to open the garage and a second time to stop or close the garage.

The Hyundai HomeLink garage openers work by registering the specific code to your garage door opener receiver. When you press that button on your rearview mirror, the receiver inside the garage receives a signal from the vehicle and triggers it to begin opening. The same process happens every time you press the button again to close the garage.
