How Long Is A Kia Sportage?

If you have an older garage, you might be familiar with the struggle of safely parking modern SUVs and larger cars inside of them. As vehicles were much smaller in the 1920s and 1930s, garages built in this era won't often accommodate the needs of today's drivers. Should you be considering the Kia Sportage, you'll want to know the dimensions of this vehicle prior to purchasing it and driving it into your garage. We researched the Sportage using professional sources, so you'll have a definitive answer on how long this SUV is.

The 2022 model Kia Sportage is 176.4 inches long. This crossover SUV has been built with the same length since Kia produced the 2017 models. Prior to 2017, the Sportage measured 174.8 inches (2011-2016) or 171.3 inches (2005-2010).

Now that we know how long the 2022 Kia Sportage is, you might be curious about this popular vehicle's other specs. Garaging your Kia Sportage

The modern single-car garage has dimensions of 20 feet long by 12 feet wide. These dimensions provide more than ample room for any consumer vehicle, no matter how big you go. Older garages were not built to this standard, so you'll want to be aware of just how much room you'll need at a minimum to maneuver your Sportage in and out of it safely.

It's recommended to have a clearance of 36 inches to the wall on either side of the vehicle. Combining this measurement with the width of the Sportage equals just over 12 feet. Does this mean that an older, smaller garage will be unusable? Not necessarily. You should still be able to get in and out of your vehicle without issue with only a 24 inch clearance on either side.

Issues that arise with cramped garages

If you or anyone in your household have mobility issues, less clearance can cause some pretty significant problems. And if you've got younger children and need to move baby or toddler carriers in and out of your car, this could also create some space issues.

It's also important to consider what other uses your garage will have. Many homeowners use their garages as more than just places to store their vehicles safely. Garages are also used for work areas, extra household storage, and other things that require more space. So when you measure out your garage to see if your potential new vehicle will safely fit inside of it, keep in mind that you might be eliminating the other current or considered usage for this area.

How many seats are there in the Kia Sportage?

The 2022 model Kia Sportage has been built with two single seats in the front and a bench seat for a second row. This rear bench seat will hold two full-sized adults comfortably but can accommodate up to three. This vehicle comes standard with cloth seating and provides the passengers with a comfortable and quiet ride.

Previous year models of the Kia Sportage have been manufactured with the same seating configuration.

How much cargo space does the Sportage have?

Kia's 2022 model Sportage has a good amount of cargo room. This cargo space is located behind the rear row of seats and is accessible via the rear hatch door. With all seats fully upright, the cargo hold is 30.7 cubic feet. If more room is required, you can opt to fold down the backs of the rear seats. Doing so will nearly double the cargo room to 60.1 cubic feet.

Keep in mind that folding down the rear seats will make it unsafe for any passenger to ride in the rear of the vehicle.

Previous year models of the Kia Sportage have the same amount of rear cargo room and the same amount of cargo room with the rear seats folded down. Prior to the model year 2017, the amount of cargo room was much smaller, at only 26.1 cubic feet.

While the Kia Sportage comes with plenty of room, those looking for a bit more space in the cargo hold might want to consider the Honda CRV. This crossover SUV is a bit longer, resulting in 39.2 cubic feet of cargo space. As with the Kia Sportage, the CRV has rear seats that will fold down. When these are folded into place, the cargo room increases to 75.8 cubic feet.

In Closing

Over time, the size of vehicles has changed with our needs. Knowing the dimensions of any prospective vehicle for your family will help you determine if you are able to safely and securely park it inside of an older garage or if it has safe clearance for narrow street parking. Crossover SUVs are significantly smaller than their full-sized counterparts, making them easier to maneuver and a lot easier to fit into a narrow space.
