What does HR-V stand for Honda?

According to Between the Axles, the HR-V for this model of Honda is an abbreviation of the words "High-rider Revolutionary Vehicle." First launched in 1998 as an alternative to Honda's CR-V, the HR-V has grown to become one of this automaker's most popular models.

With so many crossover SUVs on the market today, Honda was able to get ahead of the game with one of the earliest incarnations of this class of vehicle. Several generations of model upgrades later, the HRV remains a reliable and sought-after car.

What are the Different Models of Honda HR-V?

The current line of Honda HR-Vs offers five different trim levels to choose from. Let's take a look at some of the features that each one has to offer:

Honda HR-V EX

The base model trim level of the HR-V comes in two configurations, offering either all-wheel drive or front-wheel drive. Its CVT transmission sits under the hood with a 1.8 liter 141 horsepower engine. This lower trim level still offers many of the features of the more premium ones, including remote entry, blue tooth compatibility, and a magic seat in the rear row.

Honda HR-V E-XL

The leather-trimmed seats in this trim level add a luxurious feel to the crossover SUV. Also available in both all-wheel drive and front-wheel drive configurations, this version of the HR-V brings more on board. An automatic dimming rearview mirror, rear-facing backup camera, and a six-speaker audio system make for a comfortable ride.

Honda HR-V LX

Like the previous two trim levels, the LX has a 1.8 liter 141 horsepower engine. It is also available in all-wheel drive and front-wheel drive. A multi-view rear-facing backup camera allows for easier parking and LED brake lights and running lights make for a safer ride.

Honda HR-V Sport

The sporty trim level offers all the amenities of the earlier trim levels mentioned, plus some great added features. This comes equipped with Sport exclusive 18-inch allow wheels, sport mode with dual-mode paddle shifters, and leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter knob. The seven-inch touchscreen comes set up for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Like the other trim levels mentioned, it can be outfitted with all-wheel drive or two-wheel drive.

Honda HR-V Touring

Finally, we have the Touring trim level of the HR-V. Only available in all-wheel drive, this trim level is meant to be the most comfortable for long trips. A leather-wrapped steering wheel compliments the leather-trimmed seats, and all of the available features of the onboard infotainment system are present on this trim level as well.

Does Honda HR-V have Automatic Locks?

The Honda HR-V has more than just an automatic lock system. Honda has equipped this crossover SUV with walk-away automatic locks, which will engage several moments after you leave your vehicle parked. It can be set up by following a few simple steps.

  1. While the HR-V is in park, turn on the engine.
  2. Using the up/down arrows on the steering wheel, find the "vehicle settings" mode. Press the select/reset button.
  3. Select the door setup option.
  4. Walk away mode will appear. Select on.
  5. When you close all the doors (including the hatch) while walking away from the HR-V, you'll hear one beep as soon as the last door is closed. A second beep will be emitted when you have moved more than five feet away from the vehicle, so long as you have your key fob on you. When the second beep is heard, this means the HR-V is locked.

Does HR-V have Child Locks?

A vehicle with child safety locks prevents a young person from opening a rear door and causing injury. Years ago, some auto manufactures began engineering these locks and equipping some model cars with this safety feature.

Fortunately, Honda's HR-V has rear-door child safety locks. The locks of this model can be programmed by the driver with ease.

Does HR-V have a Power Liftgate?

The Honda HR-V does not come equipped with a power liftgate. You'll have to operate the HR-V's tailgate manually, but the hinge and door are pretty light, making it easy to open and close.

It is possible to get an after-market power liftgate added to your Honda HR-V. Doing so is a little pricey, however. The parts required typically run close to $400. In addition, expect to pay from $200 to $400 in labor charges.

Which is Bigger CR-V or HR-V?

The CR-V is noticeably larger than its HR-V counterpart. This difference in size is noticeable in the interior when comparing both vehicles. According to Motor Trends, the 2022 Honda CR-V is 182 inches long, 73 inches wide, and 66-67 inches high. The 2022 Honda HR-V is 170-171 inches long, 70-71inches wide, and 63 inches high.

Being a bigger vehicle, the CR-V will have more cargo space than the HR-V. The CR-V has up to 39.2 cubic feet of cargo space in the rear, compared to only 24.3 cubic feet of cargo space in the HR-V. The total space in the CR-V is 75.8 cubic feet, much more than the HR-V's 58.8 cubic feet.

If you are wanting a crossover SUV that will carry more cargo on board, you'll want to take a closer look at the Honda CR-V.
